A fitness-age result can change even when your underlying fitness has barely moved. It can also stay stable while one part of your fitness improves. The number reflects both your current inputs and the method used to collect them.

Real fitness adaptation

Regular aerobic activity can improve cardiorespiratory capacity, while resistance training can improve strength and function. Resting heart rate may be different after poor sleep, illness, stress, caffeine, heat, dehydration, or an unusually hard training day. A one-mile walk can change with weather, route accuracy, pacing, shoes, surface, finish-heart-rate timing, and the device used. Grip strength can shift with hand position, handle setting, effort, pain, and which trial was recorded.

That is why a one-year movement in the headline may not represent a meaningful change. Read the plausible ranges. If two ranges overlap widely, the evidence for a real difference is weaker than the rounded numbers suggest.

Protocol and data-quality changes

Moving from a questionnaire-based estimate to a standardized walk test can change the central result while improving confidence. That is useful, but it is not a clean before-and-after training comparison. The same caution applies when switching from a wearable estimate to laboratory testing or changing a dynamometer protocol.

Compare like with like whenever possible. The history view should label the method, confidence, imported source, and reference version so you can spot an apples-to-oranges comparison.

Methodology updates
