Methodology

A useful estimate must show its limits

Fitness Age is designed as a transparent comparison of fitness-related signals—not a diagnosis, a literal biological age, or a promise about future health.

What this calculator can tell you

The calculator compares selected fitness inputs with published adult reference data. It is designed for education and planning, not diagnosis or exercise clearance. The quick result is an estimate; a measured walk or laboratory test can improve confidence.

Calculation principles

Missing stays missing

An unanswered input is never silently replaced with zero or an average value. It lowers confidence and appears in the result explanation.

Ranges over false precision

The result includes a plausible range that widens when fewer or lower-quality inputs are available.

Bounded influence

Each input has a capped contribution so one unusual or noisy value cannot create an absurd result.

Versioned results

Every saved result records its method version so future changes can be compared without rewriting history.

Inputs in the Quick Assessment

Age
Sets the comparison point and supported reference range.
Fitness reference
Selects the female or male comparison data used by the calculation; it is never guessed for you.
Height and weight
Provide the body-size input used by the quick calculation, with sensible entry limits to catch unit mistakes.
Resting heart rate
Feeds the published equation; measurement conditions, medication, illness, stress, and devices can affect it.
Five-level activity category
Uses the exact published categories. Recall and category fit limit precision.
Optional waist circumference
Provides waist-to-height risk context only and never changes Fitness Age or confidence.

How confidence is communicated

Confidence reflects completeness and input quality—not how fit someone is. A lower-confidence result can still be useful if it clearly identifies which measurement would add the most information.
